Trinity Coalition wins 2021 Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Award

On November 20, Trinity Coalition was awarded the 2021 Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Award for Green Project of the year for the Trinity River National Water Trail. The awards ceremony, held via Zoom,was hosted by Green Source DFW and parent nonprofit The Memnosyne Institute. The Sustainable Leadership Awards honor oustanding leaders and volunteers throughout the North Texas green community.

Others also homored include:

Conservation Activist: Marcie Haley for her work developing and maintaining the  Twelve Hills Nature Center.

Environmental Justice: Tiara Chapman, co-leader of the Dallas network for the national nonprofit Outdoor Afro, for working to inspire Black connections and leadership in nature.

Cike Buchana Volunteer of the Year: Victoria Howard for her work with the Dallas Sierra Club's Conservation/Eco-Action Comittee.

Environmental Reporting: Haley Samsel, environmental reporter for the Star Telegram, for her hard hitting reporting covering a wide range of environmental issues in Tarrant County.

Next Generation: Sahan Yerram for student activism. He launched a student Sierra Club at Coppell High School.

Unsung Hero: Bob Mione, volunteer manager for the  Connemara Meadow in Allen. He's been leading the restoration of the meadow's Blackland prairie and has worked to reintroduce Bobwhite Quail to Collin County.

Lifetime Achievement Award (posthumous): Kevin Sloan, Dallas landscape architect, Sloan's vision helped create Airfield Falls Conservation Park in Fort Worth and Vitruvian Park in Dallas. He's also been an influencial proponet of keeping the Trinity River park project natural. A Dallas park is being named after the crusader of "rewilding."

The keynote speaker was Lance Tahmahkera, the great-great grandson of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker, who shared stories of his ancestors and his Comanche heritage. The annual awards, hosted by Green Source DFW and the Memnosyne Institute, honor outstanding leaders and volunteers in the North Texas green community. Sponsors are Dallas College and John and Margie Haley.
