Trinity Coalition has been assisting and supporting biologist Andrew Brinker and his students during wildlife studies of turtles, fish, and pollinators in the Trinity River at the confluence of the Clear Fork and West Fork. The primary study area is in and around the TC Paddlesports launch area. Brinkers students learn how to catch fish and trap turtles. TC Paddlesports team members often help with measuring and tagging turtles and measuring and weighing fish. All animals are returned to the water after their data has been recorded.
Brinker was the first biologist to record the presence of alligator snapping turtles in Tarrant County. He is also conducting a pollinator study that may show that an invasive plant along the Trinity River may actually be helping polinators thrive. Now there is hope that his work will also set a baseline that will make it possible to track any damaging impacts the Panther Island project might have on local wildlife.
